Tuesday To explore prepositions. Prepositions are words that describe or explain the position of something. They tell you where something is, for example Mrs Brindley is under the table and Mrs Black is next to the computer. Use these links to find out more: Use the preposition words in this box to write sentences. Say your sentence first. Then write it down using the correct punctuation. Read your sentence carefully to check it makes sense. Underline the preposition words with a colour. on under beside in between next to above below in front of behind Wednesday To use contractions. Contractions are made when two words are squashed together and a letter is pushed out. We use an apostrophe to show that a letter is missing, for example did+not=didn t, I+am=I m, she+is=she s, is+not=isn t Use this link to find out more: Use the contraction words in this box to write sentences. Say your sentence first. Then write it down using the correct punctuation. Read your sentence carefully to check it makes sense. Underline the contraction words with a colour. I m she s he s can t didn t don t haven t I ll hasn t couldn t shouldn t Thursday To use commas in a list. We use commas to separate items that are in a list within a sentence, for example My best friends are Kim, Vicky, Emily, Amy and Kate. The commas make a little pause between the items in the list but not as big a pause as a full stop. The last two things in the list are separated by the word and. Use this link to find out more:

Copy and complete these sentences, using commas to separate the list within each sentence. My best friends are,,, and. My favourite foods are,,, and. My favourite games are,,, and. My favourite colours are,,, and. Friday To spell tricky words accurately. This week there are some YEAR 3 tricky words hidden in the wordsearch! Find the words in the list and then use them to write sentences. Say your sentence first and then write it with the correct punctuation. Read it through to check it makes sense and underline the tricky word with a colour. You can also use this link to complete the wordsearch online

Reading and Phonics Oxford Owl free e-library: Bug Club: Phonics Play: Daily live phonics teaching: Spelling In years 2 and 3 we look at the phase 6 spelling patterns. Try to learn them so that you can use them in your writing. You can tick off the ones you know, hide them around the house to find, rainbow write them, get someone to test you learn them however you like! Rainbow Writing Write the word you are learning as many times as you can in one minute, using different colour pens or pencils, eg could could could could could could could Pyramid Writing Write the word you are learning by building up one letter at a time, eg b bu bus busy Look Cover Write Check Look carefully at the word you are learning. Now cover it up. Have a go at writing it. Then check to see if you are correct! Sentence Writing Use the word you are learning in a sentence. Say it, write it, check it. This shows that you understand what the word means, as well as knowing how to spell it.

Monday Watch the link below to discover more about 2D shapes. The has sides and vertices. The has sides and vertices. The has sides and vertices. Top tip You can count the number of sides or the number of vertices on a 2D shape they are both the same! What else can you see? How are the shapes the same? How are they different? Activity 2D shape hunt Let's see what 2D shapes we can find around the house or in your garden. You will need a pencil and a piece of paper. Look around the house or garden for 2D shapes. Draw them on your piece of paper. Can you draw and label: the name of the shape the sides the vertices

Tuesday Lines of symmetry. A 2D shape is symmetrical if you can draw a line through it and one side is an exact reflection of the other. Look at the lines of symmetry on these shapes Top tip You can test if a shape has a line of symmetry by folding it. Draw it out on a piece of paper. If one half folds over to fit exactly onto the other half, then the fold is a line of symmetry. Example Look at this rectangle below. Are these lines of symmetry? How many lines of symmetry does this rectangle have? This rectangle has a vertical and horizontal line of symmetry. Try it yourself with a rectangle of paper. Remember These diagonals are not lines of symmetry. They divide the rectangle into 2 equal areas, but one half would not fold over onto the other. A 2D shape is a flat shape with sides, vertices and sometimes lines of symmetry. If the sides and vertices on a shape are all the same, the shape is regular. Look at the shapes on the next page. Can

you draw on the lines of symmetry, shape name, number of sides and vertices. Be careful to follow the rules.

Wednesday Watch this video about 3D shapes. 3D shapes have faces, edges and vertices (corners). Faces - A face is a flat surface on a 3D shape. For example a cube has 6 faces. Edges - An edge is where two faces meet. For example a cube has 12 edges. Vertices - A vertex is a corner where edges meet. The plural is vertices. For example a cube has 8 vertices. Some 3D shapes have curved surfaces, like this cone and cylinder. For example: 3D shape hunt - Now you are ready for the activity! Today we are going to see what 3D shapes we can find around the house. You will need a pencil and a piece of paper. Look around the house for objects that are 3D shapes. Draw them on your piece of paper. Can you draw and label the faces, the edges and the vertices.

Thursday Sorting 2D and 3D shapes You use different properties, like the number of sides or faces, to sort the shapes. Think carefully about these properties and then use your sorting results to notice patterns and rules. You will learn to test your ideas by investigating a range of shapes. Remember, having ideas that turn out to be wrong is okay! Don t be afraid to make mistakes mistakes help you learn. Watch the 2 videos about sorting shapes on the links below:

Friday 5 times table Please watch the video below to warm up your maths brains today! You might want to watch it a couple of times and then join in D29FDB3C9AC9B7EA07C0D29FDB3C9AC9B&&FORM=VRDGAR&ru=%2Fvideos%2Fsearch%3Fq%3D5 %2Btimes%2Btable%2Bbbc%2Bbitesize%26FORM%3DHDRSC4 Counting in fives Here is a counting pattern: 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, This pattern goes up in fives. From each number, we add 5 to get the next number. Can you count on in fives to get to 60? Groups of 5 This array has 5 apples in each column. There are 4 columns, making 4 lots of 5.

This number track shows the 5 times table. Some numbers are missing. Can you work out which numbers are missing? How did you work out the missing numbers? Now can you draw an array for each multiplication fact in the 5 times table (look at the apple array above if you need help to get you started). What do you notice about the arrays you have drawn? How are they the same? How are they different? Practise counting up and down in fives from 0 to 60, use the numbers below to help if you need to Monday PHSE

We miss you and care about you all. Make sure you are looking after your wellbeing and try some of these activities to get you feeling good inside. We do lots of learning using our packs but you can always learn about different things that interest you too. Tuesday Art and DT Last week you made a solar system with models of real planets. This week we would like you to use your imagination to design a brand new planet. What would your planet be made from? Would your planet have land and seas? Would your planet have moons or rings? What colour would your planet be? What would you call your planet? What real planet is your planet most like and why? Wednesday Science

Watch this link to learn about natural and man-made materials. The video talks about looking around school for natural and man-made materials but you can do this at home. You can also try and make some structures using different materials if you like. Thursday Music

Some people find hearing difficult and appreciate music in different ways. This week we would like you to learn how to sing and sign You Are My Sunshine. Follow the link - Friday P.E. Your P.E. task is to make an obstacle course using things around your house or garden. Try and time yourself to see if you get quicker with practise. Extra challenge: In your obstacle course create a section you need to go over, a section you need to under and a section you need to weave through. What other sections could you add? A hopping section or slithering like a snake section? You decide. Remember that there will be good days and bad days and days in between. We are so proud of you and want to say a big thank you to Year 2 children and parents alike who are doing their best in these strange times. Be kind to yourselves, take care and you know where we are. Mrs Hanslip, Mrs Black and Mrs Brindley.
